Biography

Springfield, Massachusetts.

Moses Chapin was born on July 11, 1762 to Moses Chapin and Bethiah Chapin in Springfield, Massachusetts.[1][2] He was the great-great-great grandson of Deacon Samuel Chapin one of the founders of Springfield. His parents were related to each other as second cousins, both being great grandchildren of Japhet Chapin.

Moses was just nine years old when his father Moses died in 1771. His mother was made guardian of Moses and his brothers and sisters. The document was signed by his maternal Grandfather Phineas, Benoni Chapin and his mother Bethiah.[3]

Moses Chapin entered his intention of marriage with Keziah Chapin of Springfield on September 17, 1785.[4][5] The couple married on November 17, 1785.[6] Moses and Kezia were related to each other as first cousins, both being grandchildren of Abel Chapin.

Moses and Kezia had eight children, two daughters and six sons all born in Springfield.
