Biography

Eliphaz was born in 1822. He was the son of Samuel Chapman and Desire Curtis.[1]

He married Roxanna Austin Jennings (1822-1899) on 12 Mar 1848 in Essex, MA.[2][3] They had five children:

Lucelia Elizabeth Chapman Fifield 1848-1904
Abbie A. Chapman Briggs 1850-1887
Charles E. Chapman 1851-1912
Irving Chapman 1855-1904
Timothy Chapman 1857-1922 ("Sims B. Chapman")

In 1850 they are recorded in Newry, Oxford, ME. Eliphaz is 27, a farmer, married to Roxana, 27, who was born in MA. Lucelia is 2 and Abbie is 8 months, both born in Maine, and there is also present a George (illegible, maybe McQueen? or H. G...?) age 6.

In 1855 they are recorded in Lawrence, Essex, MA. Eliphaz is a farmer, Charles was born in NH, and Irving, 3 mos., was born in MA.

They were in Newry, Oxford, ME again in 1860. E.B. Chapman was a farmer, and the four older children were attending school. In 1870 Timothy was the only child still at home.

He passed away in 1893 in New Hampshire, of cerebral apoplexy (stroke). He is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Essex, MA.

Research Notes

1880 census still needed... there is a record in Portland, Cumberland, ME for Eliphalet B. Chapman, a produce dealer, 57, married but living alone.

But Eliphalet Chapman is another person, a distant cousin: (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/L7YM-5R7)

Death record says he was widowed, but Roxanne lived a few more years?
