Born September 16, 1791 in the town of Grandby, now part of Essex County, Vermont, and according to the existing original Town records, he was the first white child born in the town.
Hurd accompanied his daughter Malinda and son-in-law Clark Higley when they crossed the plains to Utah in 1861, and died enroute at some lost site in the state of Wyoming.
His wives: Susannah Goff (1792 - 1825) married in 1817, Clarissa Damond (1792 - 1830) married in 1826, Phoebe Ballard (1794 - ?) married in 1831, Hannah Crannell (1789 - 1868) married in 1847.
Visited by Joseph Smith and Orson Pratt baptised in 1831 and moved to Kirtland, Ohio. Shoemaker, brought a load of shoes to Utah on trek west. Started out with the David Cannon Company, but died on the third crossing of the Sweetwater River, Wyoming on 12 August 1861. He had dream of his death, his daughter thought he could have been buried alive.
