Biography

John Elmer Cherry was born on March 13, 1839 in Fostoria, Pa to James Jacob Cherry and Annie Elizabeth Black. He is living with his parents in the 1850 and 1860 census of Antis, Blair, Pa. He married Rachel C. McCauley on December 30, 1862 In Tipton, Blair, PA. During the Civil War, he was in Company E of the 104th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. He survived the war and is found in the 1870 and 1880 and 1900 census in Blair Co, Pa. In the 1910 census he and his wife are in Tipton, Pa. In 1920, they are living with their son, William. Rachel died Dec. 8, 1926 and John died Mar 17, 1929 in Altoona., Pa. They are buried in Tipton, Pa in Charlottesville Cemetery.

Known children of John and Rachel are: Claire, 1862-; Alfred D. 1864-1943; Mary E. 1866-1896; Laura 1868-1904; Howard B. 1871-1909; Harvey F. 1873-1891; David l. 1875-1967; Katherine E. 1877-1936; William E. 1880-1969; John C. 1882-1905; George B. 1885-1976; Rachel C. 1887-1982.
