John (Carlisle) Clarkson lived in Timaru, Canterbury, New Zealand.

John was born 24 Oct 1885 at Akaroa, Canterbury. [1] His birth was recorded as John Alfred Carlisle, son of Agnes Mary Carlile. His father was John Alfred Clarkson. [2]

On 27 Dec 1907 at Mt. Somers, he married Marion Murray, spinster.[3][1]

He enlisted in the First World War with the NZ Rifle Brigade. On enlistment he was 5' 8.5", medium complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, labourer. He was a freezing worker living in Waimataitai St, Timaru.[1]

He embarking for London on 1 Aug 1918 and returned home July 1919. While in London he was hospitalized with measles for 13 days.[1]

He passed away 26 Jun 1950 age 64 and was buried the following day at Timaru Cemetery.[4][5][6]

Research Notes

  • The only person mentioned in the will was his wife, Marion Clarkson. She didn't take out administration though.
  • No record of any children found; his military file gave none.
  • The military file records hs father as being born in Timaru, and his mother in Lyttelton.
