Ambrose was born about 1603[1] in Petham, Kent to parents son of Ambrose Cobb and Angelica Hunt, the last of 8 children to the couple. An older brother, also named Ambrose, was baptized on 25 August 1595 and sadly, died and was buried on 27 August 1595 in Lyminge. Ambrose was named after his older brother when he was born about 1603.[2] He was the third son named in his father's will to receive a settlement from the estate.[3]
Marriage
Ambrose married Ann White on 18 April 1625 in Norton, St. Mary, Kent, England.[4] Ann was the sister to Susan White who married Thomas Cobb.[2][5]
Residence and Migration
Ambrose and Ann lived first at Willesborough where their first three or four children were born. Ambrose sold his lands in England in 1633[6] and then migrated to the new world and settled in Virginia. It is believed that he migrated in around the year 1635 landing first in Jamestown.[3] He was given a grant for 350 acres on the Appomattox River in Henrico County on 25 July 1639.[7]
The Virginia land patent, Volume I, part II, is as follows:
Abrose Cobbs, 350 acs. Henrico Co., July 25, 1639, page 658. Upon Appamattuck Riv., adj. land of Mr. John Baugh & Mr. Abraham Wood. Trans. of 7 pers: Ambrose Cobbs, Ann, his wife, Robert his son, Margarett his daughter, Richard Barker, Hugh Barker, Thomas Harding.[8]
Ambrose came to Virginia with his wife Anne, his children Margaret, Robert, Thomas, Ambrose, and possibly William. Ambrose and his wife and children Margaret and Robert were listed as headrights in addition to three other men: Richard Barker, Hugh Barker, and Thomas Harvey.[5] Virginia awarded 50 acres for each headright. Considering that Ambrose had a total of seven headrights, this corresponds to a grant of 350 acres. The younger children (Thomas, Ambrose & William) were probably too young to be considered as headrights.
The land in Henrico County would thereafter be referred to as "Cobbs" estate.[5]

vi. Thomas Cobbs[5] was born in 1637 in Charles River County, Virginia. He died in 1702 in York County, Virginia. He never married and died without children.[3]
Harrison lists a possible child who may have traveled from England to Virginia named William but offers no documentation or support:
No information can be found to support a child of Ambrose by the name Richard. Ambrose did sponsor the voyage to the new world of a Richard Barker. It is most likely that the individual Richard Barker was conflated into a Richard Cobbs. I will disconnect the profile for Richard Cobbs, mark it as "uncertain existence," and annotate the bio. If, at a later time, source information can be found to support this connection, the profile can be reattached. Baty-260 21:52, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

This line supposedly connects to John Cobb of Kent in the 1300's . There is quite a good history on the subject, which is quoted on the Cobb/ Sasser website, and it must be researched thoroughly at a later date. At this time the modern links back to this Ambrose should be concentrated on.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ambrose by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Ambrose Cobb Jr was the youngest son of Angelica Hunt and if not a childbed death it was soon after jrs birth in 1603. Michelle Brooks is the one who needs to unattach Angelica from jr as wife, which looks like she has done. I removed Angelica as jrs wife on his profile and she was already attached as mother. Hope this has all worked the problem out.
Looks like two different Ambrose one being an older brother he would be Sr younger brother Jr, older brother Ambrose married Angelica and younger brother Ambrose married Ann this is just what I believe from reading the information on the profiles but need other managers to look over it. Thank you.. SJ Baty.
