Father Thomas Coffer/Cofer has name listed both ways in various places. Some of my ancestors are listed as Coffer but most are Cofer. Be aware that you will see this. Do not make them separate families. No one went by Copher until Jesse went to Kentucky with the Boones. I do not why this happened but may be because there was a Jesse Coffey there, and I think they would get mixed up.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
Coffer-47 and Cofer-117 appear to represent the same person because: Father Thomas was listed as both Cofer and Coffer in documents. Also in his sons but usually seen as Cofer. This other profile is listing two James' as step-brothers!
James Cofer/Coffer of Culpeper is son of Thomas T. Cofer/Coffer NOT Thomas Withers Cofer/Coffer or Thomas Cofer/Coffer of Isle of Wight. People continually merge these families. They all have wills online and info people!!!
People keep merging the 3 Thomas Cofers/Coffer's and family members. Thomas T. Cofer/Coffer of Culpeper is not Thomas Withers Cofer/Coffer of Fairfax or Thomas Cofer/Coffer of Isle of Wight. They all have wills and info online.
