Elizabeth (Cotton) Miller was born around 1785 and was living in the dwelling next to the dwelling occupied by her son, Harmon Miller, on English Hill in Whitewater Township, Franklin County, Indiana, according to the 1850 census.[1]The Ruth Miller Davis papers state that John Miller and his wife "came from Pennsylvania and were called 'Pennsylvania Dutch'".[2]John Miller, asked his son, Harmon, in his Last Will and Testament "to support and maintain my wife during the remainder of her life; all of which intend hereby to make a charge on the fifty acres of land herein bequeathed to him."[3][4] The aforementioned will also mentions Elizabeth's son, Henry Hooten, who she had by a previous husband. Elizabeth (Cotton) Miller does not appear in the 1860 census and is presumed to have died sometime between 1850 and 1860.[5]
