Helena Cranfield was born in Redhill, Surrey, in early 1907[1]. Her parents were Mary Cranfield, née Knowles, and William Cranfield, a butler turned gas fitter. Shortly after Hilda's birth the family moved to Rochester, Kent[2].
Helena died in St Pancras, London, in 1935, aged only 28[3].
