Biography

Agnes was born in 1822. She is the daughter of Robert Crawford and Agness Anderson. Record sourced may be the Birth or her Baptism.

Agnes married on 23 June 1851 in Dalry to Hugh Young, an Engine Worker. A son, John Young may have been born prior to her marriage.

At the time of the 1851 Census taken on 30 March, Agnes aged 28 is living in the family home recorded as Agnes Crawford. Her husband to be Hugh Young and his son John Young are visiting. John Young is recorded as born in Dalry and as Robert Crawford's grandson.

Agnes and her family moved to Lanarkshire where Hugh was employed as a Locomotive Engine Driver. Son John aged 17 is now recorded as having been born in Renfrewshire not Dalry.

Seven known children were born in Lanarkshire to Agnes and Hugh, Agnes 1852, Margaret 1854, Hugh 1856, Jane (also as Jean/Jeanie) 1858, Robert Crawford 1860, Adam 1863 and James 1866.

By 1891 all the children have left the family home and Hugh now in his early 70's is still employed as a Locomotive driver.

Hugh passed away in 1894 aged 75, his death registered in Tradeston. Agnes moved back to Dalry living at Wellington Villa on Townsend Street and employed a Domestic Servant Lizzie Marshall.

Agnes ( Crawford) Young died aged 85 in Ayrshire.
