Hi I have purchased these documents and can be uploaded to sites like Ancestry etc . If there is anything under UK law which I am subject to please feel free and correct me and show me I am wrong , on other sites many post images so they may all be breaking copyright laws .As far as I’m aware they can be uploaded for educational use ie research purposes but I will double check . I would say generally though if it’s my own family ancestry I have the right to post it Christopher

Hi, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you.

I see that there is a copyright printed on the images that you uploaded. I know that WikiTree frowns on adding such images, unless you explain in the comments of the image how you got the permission. Even under UK law. Maybe even especially under UK law.

And you're right, on other sites they do break copyright law. But, as I understand it, WikiTree is not one of those sites. Or rather: they try not to be.

I mentioned the copyright issue to you in an attempt to be helpful. Please don't bite my head off.

Copyright is a complex topic, and the problem I see is that it has a copyright notice in the image. I know the general rule with WikiTree is to explain in the image's comments why you are authorized by the copyright holder to post.

That being said, I did a quick search on G2G and found this discussion: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1414899/policy-greenlight-national-archive-posting-images-copyright

So it seems to me you're ok, as long as you've complied with the Crown Copyright rules, here: https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/legal/copyright/

Good luck, and happy hunting! Katrina
