Aaron was born a slave in about 1792 in New York, and free by 1820 when he settled in Sheffield, Massachusetts.
He was the (presumed) father of Civil War veteran Edward Augustus Croslear of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color.
