DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Manuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Manuel:
Unfortunately, many of the records in the Azores are not indexed. To start researching you either need to know the parish for one person, or the year they migrated. If you can find the migration record it will tell you the parish they were born in. Each new record you find will list the parish of the couple, or the parents and (sometimes) grandparents. The marriage is searched for one year before and after the first born child.
The handwritten baptismal record for Manuel Curt-10 has been a gold mine. Thank you, Mindy (Silva-1055)!
But I can't figure out how to find such things on my own, as there does not seem to be any name index for efficient searching. Can you share how you go about finding such things, when the date and the parish are not usually obvious?
