1936 WPA Family Project: In 1853 Moses Curtis & his family came to America sailing on the "American Congress", the voyage requiring seven weeks and five days. Their journey was accompanied with many privations, their food becoming scare and other conditions contributing to the discomfort of the passengers. Arriving in New York, they took a steamboat to Albany and cars to Buffalo, going thence to Canada. About this time Harriette died. Oldest son Edwin recorded that he worked on a railroad and at ditching. From Canada the family came to Lenawee Co where several previous three brothers, Edward, Daniel & William had located. About ten days after their arrival Moses Curtis died. In 1854 the widow and her children went to Spring Arbor Twp, Jackson Co, Michigan remaining there about a year when they located on a farm in Tompkins Twp, between Tompkins Center and Rives Junction. Here the widow, Elizabeth Curtis, lived until her death in 1888.
