Biography

Josephine (Cygan) Frey, 101, formerly of Enfield, died August 26, 2008 at the Water’s Edge Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Middletown. Born on November 7, 1906 in Enfield, Josephine was the daughter of the late Casimir and Mary (Wegiel) Cygan. A longtime resident of Enfield, Josephine attended Enfield High School and was a communicant of St. Adalbert’s Church. She was employed by Pratt and Whitney, Steigers Department Store, and Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company. Josephine retired from the Mountain Laurel Restaurant as a hostess. In her leisure time she was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening as well as cooking; she was known for continually giving of herself to others. She is survived by her son Alan H. Frey and his wife Nancy, and Nancy’s mother Isabel Milewski all of Camden, ME; several nieces and nephews Cheryl (Cygan) Dunne of Enfield, Gail (Cygan) Blaney of Lehigh Acres, FL, Marion (Cygan) Chittenden of Suffield, Anna (Cygan) Massaro of Crossville, TN, Frank Cygan of Suffield, Sebastian Cygan of Hickory, NC, Genia (Cygan) Cardone of Suffield, Mona (Hanson) Clark of Mansfield, and Frances (Cygan) Sack of Sun City West, AZ; several great nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Josephine will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery, East Windsor. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Josephine’s memory be made to Alzheimer’s Association-CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Road, Kensington, CT 06037
