Alfred Wilson Daniel was born in Pennsylvania to prominent Presbyterian minister, Rev. Horace Daniel. As a young man, he moved to Marysville, Ohio and worked as a farmhand on his in-law's property. He and his wife Mary moved to Monroe, Iowa, where they owned and operated a meat market. Before the turn of the century, they moved to Missouri where they returned to farming. A.W. and his wife had 10 children: 5 boys and 5 girls. All but 2 girls lived to adulthood. Eventually, A.W. and Mary returned to Mary's girlhood hometown of Marysville, Ohio, where they lived out the rest of their lives.
