Biography

Henry Daniel was born on March 13, 1788, in New Brunswick, Canada, one of nine children of Joel Daniel, 28, and Clarissa Wynn/Winn, 23. He married Esther Frazee and they had ten children together. (Henry's sister, Rebecca, married Esther's brother, Joseph,) Several of Henry's children were named after his family members. He died on August 15, 1832, in Blenheim, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 44, and was buried in Oxford, Ontario, Canada.

Daniel vs. Daniels

The family surname was listed as "Daniel" in many New Jersey Quaker records. Henry's father, Joel Daniel, emigrated to New Brunswick after the American Revolution. Some of his children and grandchildren began using "Daniels" as a variation by the mid 1800s. Henry's last name at birth was likely "Daniel".

Henry's last name at birth was likely Daniel, not Daniels. The family surname was orginally Daniel and it morphed into "Daniels" by the mid-1800s.
