Jerusha passed away about 1873.

Notes

Jerusha Jane Darwin was the third member of James Darwin's family to marry into the Petty family. Her husband, Solomon Petty, wasn't a son of James Petty, Sr., but was probably the illegitimate son of James Petty's daughter, Catherine.

It is believed that Jerusha and Solomon Petty along with their daughters Cynthia and Mahala left S. Carolina for Tennessee about 1814 in the company of the family of Gabriel and Sarah (Darwin) Petty and arrived in Hickman County in the autumn of 1814. They probably lived on the land of Thomas Petty for the first few years of their settlement and both families are still shown in Hickman County on the 1820 census.

On 2 July 1824, Solomon Petty received a state grant for 70 acres of land in Dickson County, TN, on Turkey Creek of the Pine River and this tract of land was adjacent to the south boundary line of Gabriel Petty's property (DB D p.450 / registered 13 Mar. 1829).

Obituary:: TENNESSEE BAPTIST - February 25, 1860 - page # 3 - column 5

"Died at his residence in Dickson County, Tennessee on the 29th of January, 1860, Mr. SOLOMON PETTY, in the 77th year of his age. He was born Union District, South Carolina, and was married in that country to JERUSHA DARWIN. Emigrated to Tennessee in 1814. Brother Petty made a profession of religion in the year 1833, and lived up to his profession till the time of his death and died resigned to the will of God. He last left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his exit from earth, and especially his bereaved widow and children, eleven in number, and several grand children. Oh, that God would interpose in their salvation that they might say, with David, out father cannot come to us, but by the Grace of God we can go to Him. J.D. Petty."

Note: The J.D. Petty who signed this was James Darwin Petty, a son-in-law of Solomon. He was married to Solomon's daughter, Mahala Petty. James Darwin Petty was a son of Gabriel Petty and Sarah Darwin.
