Octavie Daunis

The many different ways the surname is spelled causes problems with searches: Daunois, Daunis, Donois, Doni, Donis, Danis, Denis, Daunoy, Danos and others.

  • From Renelle Hebert Folse:
    Lydia Noemi Landry (Renelle's paternal grandmother) told the grandchildren that her grandmother, Octavine Daunois, came from a wealthy New Orleans family. My research showed that at that time the New Orleans area was divided into plantations which took up much land each; one of them was called Donewar (which is how Donewars in Gretna I knew spelled it).

In the 1860 census, she is living with Jean Baptiste Landry (Jr) and their 5 young children.

In the 1870 census, she is not living with Jean Baptiste Landry (Jr). He is shown living with 6 children and his parents.

Had she died by then?

So far, there are no good sources for her parents.

Some family trees list her parents as Marcel Daunois and Scholastique Guidry. This couple has sources (church records), but none show the christening of a child named Octavie.
