Biography

Born in the Hastings Union Workhouse. Mother was Emily Susan Davis. Due to the name given him by his mother and DNA hits, it is presumed that his father was Albert James Foster who would have been 21 or 22 at the time. From census information and his use of the surname Foster, it appears that he was adopted by his paternal grandparents. Goat carriage driver (!) in 1911. Light labourer in 1939. Married widow, Lily Ellen Gander on 4 May 1919.
