Biography

William Grier Davis was born in 1839 in Georgia, USA.[1] He was the son of Moses Davis and Almedia Thompson.

1850 US Census:[2] William G Davis was listed as 10yo and born in GA. He was living in Hancock, Hancock Co, GA with his parents Moses (32; GA) and Almedia (32; GA) along with four younger siblings.

1860 US Census:[3] "Wm G Davies" was shown as 20yo and born in GA. He was living in Greene Co GA (just NW of Hancock Co) with his parents, seven younger siblings, and his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth (Grier) Davis (1786-). Their post office was Long Shoals.

William married Martha Ann Elizabeth Grant (1847-1912), daughter of Joseph Grant (1820-?), on 15 Nov 1863 in Greene Co GA.[4] They are believed to go on to have the following children (some further verification is needed):

1870 US Census:[5] William Davis was listed as a 30yo farmer born in GA. He was living in Greene Co GA with his wife Ann Davis (21; GA) and their children Almeda (4), Milton (2), and Mattie (6/12). Their post office was Penfield (about 24 miles north of Long Shoals).

1880 US Census:[6] William Davis was shown as a 39yo farmer born in GA. He was living in District 116, Hancock Co, GA with his wife Martha (32; GA) and their children Julia (14), Allen (12), Mattie (10), Joseph (8), William (6), Thomas (4), and Moses (2). His parents were both described as born in GA.

Based on birthplaces of children, the family moved from Hancock Co GA to Buckner, Lafayette Co, Arkansas about 1881-1882.

1900 US Census:[7] William G Davis was listed as 61yo old and born Dec 1839 in Georgia. He was living in Buckner,
