Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade was a French nobleman, author, and philosopher known for his libertine lifestyle and his erotic works of fiction, including Justine (1791) and Juliette (1799). During the French Revolution, he was part of the Section des Piques with Robespierre, but was later his opponent about religion (Sade was a profound atheist and anticlericalist, and Robespierre was a deist).
Donatien Alphonse François de Sade was born on the 2 June 1740 in the parish of Saint-Sulpice in Paris[1].
His manuscript, 120 Days of Sodom was declared a National Treasure of France in 2017.[2]
