Luís was born on 27 May 1739 and baptized on 6 June of the same year, son of Francisco Rodrigues da Costa and Madalena Nunes do Planto. His godparents were Captain Luís da Rocha and his maternal aunt Luísa Nunes do Planto.
[1]
He married his first cousin, Rosa Joaquina Ana da Encarnação, on 24 December 1768 in the parish of Pena, Lisbon. They were formally given permission by the church to marry, given their close kinship.
[2]
He was a captain ("Capitão-Mór"). He died on 17 October 1818 in Quintãs.

Research Notes
Biographical Note
He owned a slave, Teotónio, who died "suddenly of a violent and cruel death" [4]. I don't think, however, that the Captain would have had a hand in this, since he paid to have masses said for Teotónio and had him buried inside the church, but it's impossible to know the truth now and whether the captain, in fact, was responsible for the murder. It is very unfortunate that all that remains of Teotónio's life is a death record. For now, I have found nothing else about Teotónio, other than what was written in his death record.
