Biography
Jacobus Demarest is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.
Jacobus Demarest married 16 Nov 1751 at Schraalenburgh, NJ to Catherine Lozier. [1]
The following is from the Demarest family history as cited above: "Lived at Schraalenburgh, moving later to Sugar Loaf (Warwick), where he bought 800acres. He was a Loyalist in the Revolution, refused to sign the Pledge, as did his son Jacobus Jr. His property was confiscated, and he moved to Dutchess Co. during the war, later returning to Sugar Loaf. His will was dated 5 Dec 1801, probated 25 February 1803 and is at Goshen NY. Gilliam was given 100 acres of land "which I own in the fifty township of Catarauqua (Cataraqui-now Kingston) in Upper Kennedy (Canada)" They are buried in Locust Hill Cemetery. [2]
