Leo's father was Christophorus, who had been primicerius under Pope John VIII. It is believed he was a member of the Sanguini family.[1]
Leo VI's papacy began in either May or June 928.[2]
Leo the Sixth, a Roman, was canonically elected Pope, acted nothing tyrannically in his whole life, but lived soberly and modestly, taking care of religion as far as an age of so corrupt manners would bear. For he made it his endeavour to quiet the minds of the citizens (who, through the rashness and folly of former Popes, were inclining to tumults), to compose the affairs of Italy, to make peace with foreign enemies, and to drive the barbarians from the skirts of his country, than which nothing could be done to better purpose or more commendably in so short a time; for in the seventh month and fifteenth day of his pontificate he died, and was buried in St Peter's Church, to the great grief of the citizens of Rome.
His papacy ended in either December 928 or January 929.[2]
