Konrad III von Diepholz was born in 1424 in Diepholz as a member of the noble family of the Counts of Diepholz, a son of Count Konrad von Diepholz and Countess Armgardt von Hoya. He served as the Bishop of Osnabrück from 1455 until his death in 1482.
Konrad began his ecclesiastical career as a Propst in Deventer. By 1439, he had risen to the position of provost of the chapter of the cathedral in Osnabrück. His early involvement in ecclesiastical and regional disputes helped establish his reputation as a competent and resourceful leader.
Konrad was selected as Bishop of Osnabrück on 11 June 1455, succeeding his uncle, Rudolf von Diepholz[1]
He was confirmed as the Bishop of Osnabrück on 15 December 1455 and ordained on 27 May 1456.[2]
Konrad III held good relationships to he magistrate of the city of Osnabrück, particularly via Ertwin Ertman who was enacted as his plenipotentiary on 18 May 1457.[3]
Konrad died on 21 May 1482[2] after dedicating more than 40 years to serving the people and church of Osnabrück. His grave is located in the Marienkapelle in the chancel of the Osnabrück Cathedral, with an inscription that praises his piety and leadership. He is remembered as a brave warrior, a wise peacekeeper, and a devout bishop, deeply committed to the spiritual and temporal welfare of his diocese.
