Garland Preston Dogan was born 6 May 1919 in Virginia, USA. He was the son of Silas Sylvester Dogan and Amanda Virginia Stanley. He had four older siblings

On 31 Aug 1946, his sister Virginia Kern Dogan (20) married James Lewis Butler Jr (23) in Roanoke. James was white, single, worked as a car repairer for Norfolk & Western Railway, born in Roanoke City, son of James L and Clare Bradford Butler, and resided in Hollins. Garland was white, single, worked as a carpenter, born in Botetourt County, son of Silas S and Virginia Stanley Dogan, and lived in Hollins. Frances was white, single, born in Botetourt County, daughter of Frank and Della Arthur Brickey, lived in Hollins. They were married by J E Patterson, minister of the Brethren church. [8]

In the late 1940s, his son M W Dogan was born in Botetourt County. [9] [10]

On 28 Feb 1948, his brother Robert Hammit Dogan (21) married Frankie Marie Wright (19) in Roanoke. Robert was white, single, worked as a car repairer's helper for Norfolk and Western Railway, born in Roanoke County, son of Silas S and A Virginia Stanley Dogan, and lived at RFD #1 Box 34 in Hollins, Virginia. Frankie was white, single, born in Roanoke County, daughter of Frank E and Mary Floyd Wright, lived at RFD #1 Box 182 in Roanoke. They were married by J E Patterson, minister of the Brethern church. In the late 1940s, his daughter L C Dogan was born in Botetourt County. [12]

1950s

On 11 Apr 1950, Garland P Dogan (30) lived in Amsterdam, Botetourt County with his wife Francis (20), son Marshall W (2), and daughter Linda C (1). They did not live on a farm and they owned less than acres. They were white and born in Virginia. Garland worked 50 hours per week as a general carpenter working for a contractor; Frances was a homemaker. [13]

In the mid 1950s, his daughter B D Dogan was born in Virginia. [14]

On 6 Feb 1957, his sister Hazel Mary Dogan (41) married Clyde Watkins Doss (46) in Pasquotank, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. Clyde was divorced, white, from Norfolk, Virginia, born 10 Sep 1910 in Williamson, West Virginia, and the son of James O and Mary Stacy Doss. Hazel was widowed, white, from Norfolk, Virginia, and the daughter of Silans S and Amanda Stanley Dogan.

1960s

On 28 Apr 1960, his father Silas Dogan died in Botetourt County.

On 6 Jun 1965, his son Kevin Scott Dogan was born in Virginia. [15]

In the late 1960s, his daughter L C Dogan (<21) married D L Dixon (<12) in Roanoke. Mr Dixon was white, single, worked for the Coast Guard, born in Roanoke, son of Albert L and Vredda Overstreet Dixon, and lived at 4313 Tennessee Ave NW in Roanoke. In the late 1960s, his son M W Dogan (<21) married T P Vaino (<21) in Troutville. Mr Dogan was white, single, worked for the Army, born in Botetourt County, son of Garland P and Frances Brickey Dogan, and lived at Route 1 Box 282A in Hollins Ms Vaino was white, single, a student, born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, daughter of Randolph E and Ann Gaffney Vaino, and lived at Route 1 Box 282 in Troutville. They were married by Clarence M Moyers, an ordained minister of the Church of the Brethren. [9]

1970s

On 22 Feb 1971, his sister Grace Dogan Green (64) died at Community Hospital in Roanoke, Roanoke County from probably pulmonary thombolus due to rheumatic heart disease. She was white, married to Allen A Green, lived at Route #2 in Troutville, Botetourt County, Virginia, worked as a housewife, born 27 Apr 1906 in Hollins, Virginia, and the daughter of Silas S and Amanda V Stanley Dogan. Lotz Funeral Home provided services and she was buried at Sherwood Cemetery in Salem. [16] [17]

On 11 Jan 1973, his mother Jennie died in Hollins, Roanoke County.

In the mid 1970s, his son M W Dogan (20s) married A M Anderson (40s) in Clifton Forge, Virginia. Mr Dogan was born in Virginia, white, divorced from his first marriage, high school graduate, lived at Route 1 Box 282A in Hollins, and the son of Garland P and Frances Brickey Dogan. Ms Anderson was born in Sweden, white, divorced from her first marriage, high school graduate, lived at 110 S Craig street in Covington, Virginia, and the daughter of Tore and Greta Orman Jonsson. They were married by a Presbyterian minister. [10]

On 23 Dec 1978, his sister Virginia Kern Dogan Butler (52) died at NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina from cardiopulmonary arrest due to lung and breast cancer. She was white, a housewife, married to James Lewis Butler, and resided at 4680 Pine Hill Dr in Pfafftown, Forsyth County. She was born 29 Jan 1926 in Botetourt County, Virginia, and the daughter of S S and Virginia Stanley Dogan. The informant of her death was her husband Mr James L Butler. Frank Vogler & Sons provided funeral services and she was buried at Forsyth Memorial Park in Forsyth County. [18] [19]

1980s

In the early 1980s, his daughter B D Benny (20s) married M E Burnette (20s) in Roanoke. Mr Burnette was born in Virginia, white, single, had an 8th grade education, lived at 1603 Buena Vista Ave SE in Roanoke, and the son of Clovis and Clara Forkner Burnette. Ms Benny was born in Virginia, white, divorced from her first marriage, had a 10th grade education, lived at Route 1 Box 282A in Hollins, and the daughter of Garland and Frances Brickey Dogan. They were married by a pastor of the Southern Baptist church. [14]

On 22 Mar 1982, his sister Mary Dogan Doss (68) died at McVitty House Nursing Home in Salem from liver metastasis of colon cancer. She was Caucasian, married to Clyde W Doss, lived at 920 Indiana St in Salem, worked as a housewife. She was born 25 Oct 1913 in Virginia and the daughter of Silas S and Amanda V Stanley Dogan. Her daughter Mrs Jeannette Oedel was the informant of her death. Rader Funeral Home Inc provided services and she was buried at Riley Family Cemetery in Daleville, Botetourt County. On 4 Aug 1982, his brother Ethan Eugene Dogan Sr (71) died at Community Hospital in Roanoke from cardiopulmonary arrest due to refractory congestive heart failure and acute myocardial infarction. He had lived at Route 3 Box 29 in Roanoke, worked as a construction contractor, and was divorced. He was born 7 Jul 1911 in Botetourt County and the son of Silas S and Amanda Stanley Dogan. The informant of his death was his son E E Dogan. Rader Funeral Home in Troutville, Virginia provided services and he was buried at Riley Family Cemetery in Daleville, Botetourt County, Virginia. On 27 Sep 1984, Garland Preston Dogan (65) died at the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia from cardiopulmonary arrest secondary to acute myelogenous leukemia. He was white, resided at Route 3 Box 31 outside Roanoke, Botetourt County, married to Frances B Dogan, military veteran, and worked as a contractor in construction. He was born 6 May 1919 in Virginia, a USA citizen, son of Silas S and Amanda Stanley Dogan. The informant of his death was his wife Frances B Dogan. Rader Funeral Home provided services and he was buried at Daleville Cemetery in Daleville, Botetourt County, Virginia. [27]
