When Joseph Desire "Daniel" Dora was born in August 1834 in Châteauguay, Quebec, Canada, his father, Pierre Dore, was 39 and his mother, Marie Francoise Hurtubise, was 44. He married Marguerite "Maggie" St Amour in 1855. They had nine children in 23 years. He died on March 8, 1907, in Burke, New York, at the age of 72.
