Biography

Names

Anthony Drane, William Anthony Drane (William Anthony name established through cemetery records)[1]

1754 Birth and Parentage

Anthony b. 1754 Prince George's Co., Maryland; bap. Sep 1754 St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, near Upper Marlboro, Maryland s/o James Drane (abt. 1715 - 1787) and Elizabeth Smith Piles (abt. 1730 - aft. 1785).[1]

An article stated that Anthony was possibly the son of James, who was the son of Anthony who was the original Drane of Brock Hall property - but this is supposition by the article and evidence is not presented[2] That appears to be a true statement because in 1712 his grandfather Anthony Drane had purchased Brock Hall from William Nichols, his father-in-law by marriage to Elizabeth Nichols and John Darnall.

Anthony is also the great-grandfather of Rep. Herbert Jackson Drane of Florida[3][4]

Marriages

Anthony must have been married prior to Ann Smith because he had at least three sons by the date of their marriage. Unfortunately, records can't be found on the first wife. Ann Smith is often listed as the mother of these boys but she would have been 11 years old when the first was born.[1]
