Narrative:
Rebecca DRURY was born circa 1791 according to the 1841 Census. Her age was given as 50, but this may be rounded. She lived in Dronfield at the time of her marriage in 1808 but no baptism record has been found in that parish. The most credible baptism took place 6 June 1790 in Aughton near Rotherham, but this idea is based on the date 1790 and the relative closeness of Rotherham. However the 1841 Census return says she was born in Derbyshire.
Rebecca married Samuel French on 8 February 1808 at St John the Baptist, Dronfield. A son John was baptised there in 1817, and they had at least 9 other children Elizabeth (1815), James (1819), Steven (1821), Olive (1824), George (1826), Henry (1828), William (1831), Edward (1833) and Joseph (1837).
The family residence appeared in the census in 1841 as being in Unstone, Dronfield, Derbyshire. Samuel, her husband , died in 1846.
Rebecca died in December 1850. The death was registered in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. She was buried on 31 December 1850 in Sheffield.
These ideas are based on the fact that no Census record for 1851 has been found, which makes the date of death between 1841 and 1851. There is no record of the death of Rebecca French in Derbyshire in this interval, but for nearby Sheffield we get December 1850, her age being given as 62. The estimated birth year would then be 1789/90.Her address in Sheffield was Solly Street. No French or married daughters found in Solly Street in 1841 or 51.
