Elizabeth E. "Lizzie" Dunbar, daughter of Alexander Dunbar and Mary B. Smart, was born in Bath, Sagadahoc County, Maine, United States, in about 1871.[2] Lizzie had nine siblings. Here are the seven who are known, in order of their births: George, who was born in 1856 and died (before Lizzie was born) in 1862;[3]Annie, born in 1860;[4]Gilbert, born in about 1863;[5]Mary, born in about 1867;[6]Sarah, born in 1874;[7]Ralph, born 2 May 1876,[8] and Walter, born in Mar 1878.[9]
As of 10 Jun 1880, Lizzie and her siblings Annie, Mary, Sarah, Ralph and Walter resided with their parents on Sommerset Street in Bath, where their father worked as a ship carpenter.[10] Her sister, Annie, married Charles E. Robinson in Bath, 24 Apr 1882.[4]
By 1900, Lizzie's's father had died, and Lizzie and her unmarried adult siblings Sarah, Ralph and Walter resided with their widowed mother at 5 Cummings Street in Bath.[12] In Bath, 7 Feb 1901, Lizzie's sister Sarah wed 38 year-old James D. Tabor.[7] In Bath, 28 Jan 1904, her brother, Ralph, married Bertha M. Lakin.[8]
Lizzie remained in Bath in 1910, she and her single brother, Walter, continuing to reside in her mother's home at 5 Cummings Street.[13]
In Bath, 22 Jan 1912, Lizzie lost her mother to "acute bronchitis," at age 73.[14] In Bath, 20 Apr 1915, Lizzie's 47 year-old sister, Mary, who had never married, wed a 65 year-old widower, William Yule.[6]
