Henry was born in 1798.
Henry was living with his wife in 1880 in Tioga, New York.[1]
He passed away in 1884.[2]
Clipping from an unknown newspaper pasted inside the family bible given to Mina FINCH by her Aunt Almira O. (WAIT) RUSSELL which reads as follows:
"DUNHAM. -- At the residence of his son, James C. Dunham in Windham, Bradford County, Pa.; Saturday July 12, 1884. the Rev. Henry Dunham, in the 86th year of his age.
The subject of this notice came, with his parents, from Washington County, New York, when a boy six years old. At the age of 26 he was married to Sybil Wait, who now survives him. They soon after settled on the farm where he spent the most of his life, and where he died. Uncle Henry, as he was generally called, was a carpenter and millwright by trade. The M.E. church in this place was put up under his supervision, and many are the buildings in the surrounding country that were erected by his skillful hands. Ten children were given them, five sons and five daughters, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood, and married and settled in homes for themselves, most of them near the old homestead. Many were the pleasant anniversaries and gatherings enjoyed by the parents and children, especially on New Year's Day, as it was father's birthday. In all these years the family circle had not been broken. As the parents were getting feeble and in their declining years, it was expected they would be first taken, but two years ago the messenger came for one of the youngest sons, Wright Dunham, twin brother of Samuel Dunham, Esq., of Little Valley, New York, in the 42nd year of his age. This was a heavy blow to the whole family as he was the one that was loved and respected by all. At the age of 30 years this father in Israel gave his heart to the Lord, and his name to the Methodist Church, and for fifty-five years he has been a faithful, devoted member of the same. Forty-two years ago he was licensed to exhort, which license was renewed every year until the time of his death. He also held the office of class leader many years. The service of the Master was his delight. If he heard of a protracted meeting, there he would go, and to work. Many will remember his earnest prayers and exhortations. He lived his religion at home, and wherever he was he let his light shine. He had been a constant subscriber of the Northern Christian Advocate for thirty years. In his declining years his Bible and his paper were his constant companions. His eyesight and hearing were remarkable for a man of his years. Although in feeble health, he attended church until a few weeks before his death. He went as a shock of corn, fully ripe, and ready for his Master's use. His mind was clear until the last hour of his life, when he gently passed away, as the sun going down behind the western hills. All was done for him that could be by his aged companion and children to comfort and relieve him, and we can but exclaim:
"Who would not wish to die like those Whom God's own spirit deigns to bless, Or sink into their last repose And wake to everlasting bliss?
"A large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors followed his remains to the grave. The funeral services were held at Wait's church, conducted by the Rev. Ziba Evans, assisted by the Rev. S. Galpin, and his remains were deposited in the cemetery at that place. ~ His Friends."
