James Dunn was born in Scotland.

James was born at 2:55 pm on 4 July 1881 at 20 Glasgow Rd, Dumbarton. [1] He was the second of six children of Lauchlan Dunn and Jessie Webster.

James Dunn lived in Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand.

Lauchlan, his wife and sons sailed from London on James migrated to New Zealand with his parents and brother Alexander. They sailed from London on "Aorangi" on 9 May 1885 arriving in Auckland on 25 June 1885 shortly before his 4th birthday. [2]

James father died in 1895 when James was 14. [3] He continued to live with his mother in Newmarket until 1911 [4] with his occupation being given as assistant.

There is a James Dunn, fireman living at "Albert Coffee Palace", 7 Victoria St in 1919 which may be a different person. [5]

No other records have been found till his death on 27 June 1952 at Kingseat Mental Hospital, near Papakura, Auckland. He is described as farm labourer and cause of death is given as Coronary occulsion (instanteous), bronchitis (4 days) eplilespy (many years). [6] Given the mental health policy of the times it is likely that James lived there most of his life. James was buried at Waikumete Cemetery with his mother and brother Arthur on 30 June 1952 in Nonconformist Division C, Row 21, Plot 16 [7]
