Biography

Note that his birthdate is given in the old form of 1708/09. Farmer and husbandman in Swansea, MA, near the Kickemuit Bridge, where he made his home until about 1752 when he moved to Scituate, RI. Some of his deeds are recorded in Warren, RI, (and it must be noted that the Rhode Island/Massachusetts border was not permanently settled until much later in history). He became the guardian of Simeon Read, his nephew, on April 14, 1743.
