Ólafur Egilsson
Birth: 1564
Death: 1 Mar 1639
"Probably a Priest at Torfastaðir in Biskupstungur about and after 1590.[1] Priest at Ofanleiti in Vestmannaeyjar from about 1594[2], kidnapped during the Barbary slave raids ( Turkish Abductions / Tyrkjaránið ) in 1627. Became a Priest again at Ofanleiti in Vestmannaeyjar from 1634 till his last[2]" (Íslendingabók).[3] When he was captured he was taken to Algiers but managed to return back to Iceland in 1628. His wife Ásta Þorsteinsdóttir returned in 1637, but his sons never did. He later wrote a memoir about his experiances.[4][5][6]
