Hans was born in Grundy county, Iowa in 1888. In July 1918 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and sent overseas to France during WWI.
It was passed down through Eliasen generations that Hans fought in the French trenches during WWI. He wrote to his brother Jens Peter that he was in a French hospital being treated for deafness. After returning home from the war, it was also passed down through Eliasen generations that the whereabouts of Hans was unknown. As of yet, no census record with Hans after 1910 has been found, but his WWII draft registration lists him in Minneapolis, MN and his death records list him as having died in North Dakota.
