Biography

Florence was born 14 Oct 1878 near Fiskburg, Kenton County, Kentucky the daughter of John and Ellen (Reeves) Anthony.^[1] Her parents moved to rural Pratt County, Kansas by 1891 where Florence first appears in local newspaper mentions in that year and in 1895 census records.^[2]

In 1900, Florence became the cashier and assistant secretary of the State Farmers' Life Insurance Association. She married Robert Anthony, MD, 24 Jun 1903 at her parents home in rural Pratt County, Kansas, Rev W K Estill officiating.^[3] The young couple initially lived in Springfield, Illinois and in 1910 were in Pratt, Kansas^[4] but by 1912 Florence and the children were living in Vancouver, Canada where Florence worked as a stenographer. The consular registration document shows children Margaret and Ralph living in Vancouver but husband Robert as living in Chicago.^[5]

By 1920, the family had moved to Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas^[6][7] In 1930, she came to Liberal, Kansas to help her parents and had lived in Liberal, Kansas since then. Later in life she lived three years at the Presbyterian Manor at Newton, Kansas but a few weeks before passing was brought to the home of Roy and Margaret Smith in Liberal where she passed away 6 Apr 1960.^[8] She is interred at the Liberal Cemetery, Liberal, Kansas.^[9]
