Heinrich Engeland (IV) was born 1828-08-19 in Germany. He was a son of Johann George Engeland (1800-1831) and Anne Elisabeth (Pfeffer) Engeland (abt.1803-1881)[1]..
He was a servant, shopkeeper, and farmer in various towns and finally in Gilserberg, Germany[1].
On 1852-04-12, he married Elisabeth (Steller) Engeland (abt.1831-). At least five children were christened (except the oldest), some died and buried in Gilserberg[1].
The Engeland family migrated from Germany to Ontario, Canada around 1868 between the births of son John (1867, Germany) and Catharine (1869, Canada). The family is listed in the 1871 and 1881 censuses of Canada. The 1881 Census lists Heinrich's occupation as "peddler"[2][3]. Later in 1881, the family migrated again from Ontario to Chicago, Illinois[4].
The story of their daughter Engeland-6 is that she emigrated with her family from Germany to the United States abt 1862. However, the documentation shows this account to be inaccurate or perhaps misremembered. This story also occurred before World War I, so the story might deliberately be skewed to emphasize American heritage.
