George was born in New Jersey in Mar 1895[1] as the first of three children of Harry and Lillie Ensminger.[2]
By 1915 he is 20 and working as a cashier, living with father Harry (51, photographer) .[3]
The 1920 census record scan is so poor that the family name is shown as Cavannagh online! The right side of the page is clearer, showing father Harry as a photographer and George as a bookkeeper.[4] In 1930 (age 35) he is listed as head of household, but still single and living with his parents and sister. He is a clerk in export of textile machinery and supplies.[5]
1940 finds him with his widowed mother, employed as an auditor in state unemployment.[6]
In Nov 1958 George Ensminger married Myrtle I Darkes in Trenton, New Jersey.[7]
There are a few problems with data for George after 1940. His birth record (including parental names) gives 16 Mar 1894, but military records say 16 Mar 1895. Social security and military records show his date of death as 9 Nov 1978 in North Carolina. His headstone is shared by Myrtle D. Ensminger.
A George Ensemenger with spouse Johanna has enough similar details to turn up in searches for this George, but Ensemenger's parents were born in Germany.
