August Eriksson was born on August 4, 1834 in Hästeryd in Hemsjö, Älvsborg, Sweden. He was the son of Eric Jonasson and Cherstin Andersdotter.

He married Anna Lena Johansdotter on February 26, 1865. Their son was Emil Svante Erickson (1867–1947).
