At the 1911 Census [4], George was living at Devereux Chambers on Devereux Court, St Clement Danes, London and Middlesex, England, where his father was caretaker.
George Evans served in the Royal Naval Air Service in World War I Service started: 4 Sep 1916 Unit(s): Service ended: 1 April 1918
George joined the Navy, specifically the Royal Navy Air Service (RNAS), on the 4th of September 1916 as a boy seaman. He was a 'boy mechanic'. His civilian occupation had been a 'bracelet maker'. His physical description upon entering the military was brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, height of 5 ft and 3 & 3/4 inches, and a scar on his abdomen.
Once he turned 18 on the 5th of May 1917, he became a regular seaman. On the 20th of June 1917 he became an 'air mechanic II'. He served on many stone frigates (naval land establishments) throughout his career
On 1st of April 1918, the RNAS joined with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) to form the Royal Air Force (RAF). He was promoted to Sergeant Mechanic on the 2nd of April. He was moved to 256 Squadron on the 2nd of August.
George Evans served in the Royal Air Force in World War I Service started: 1 Apr 1918 Unit(s): 256 Squadron Service ended: 27 Feb 1920
George was demobilised on the 27 of February 1920 and transferred to RAF reserve on the 26th of March. His service number was F20259 (RNAS) then 220259 (RAF).
He married Rose Lilian Augur on the 17th of June 1923 at at St Thomas Church, Bromyward Ave, Acton, Middlesex, England.[5][6] They had 6 children together. In 1930, Rose gave birth to twins, Elizabeth Ellen and Jean Winifred, who both died of diptheria within a few months of eachother a few years later in 1934 and 1935 respectively.
Rose and George appeared on the 1939 Register [2] with their children George, William, Philip, and a daughter, who is still living, on 65 Beverley Road, Ruislip, Ruislip-Northwood U.D., Middlesex, England. George's occupation was 'labourer civilian establishment RAF'.
George died on the 30th of December 1974 in Whitby Dene care home on Whitby Road in Eastcote, Ruislip, Middlesex, England[7][8].
