Biography

Birth and Family

Pleasant was born 27 August 1877. He was the son of Isaiah Evans and Rhoda Felty. [1]

In 1880 Pleasant Wade Evans was 2 y.o. at the time of the census. He was living with his parents and a younger sister, Louisa, age 1. The family was living and farming in Butler, Kentucky, United States.[2]

World War I

Pleasant Wade Evans registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sept. 1918 in Morgantown, Butler Co. Kentucky. He verified his date of birth as 27 Aug. 1877. He was living in Brooklyn, Butler Co. , Kentucky. His occupation was 'Blacksmith' and he was self-employed. His nearest relative was Dora Evans in Brooklyn, Ky. He is described as medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair. [3]

WWII Draft

Pleasant Wade Evans registered for the WWII draft in Butler, KY., on 25 April 1942. He was 64 years old. He stated he lived in Morgantown, Butler , KY. and that Dora Evans was the person who would always know his address. He is described as white, 5 foot 8 inches tall, 160 lbs. with blue eyes and gray hair. No obvious physical characteristics that would aid in identification.[4] Although he registered for both wars, Pleasant was not inducted into the military. It is noted on the 1950 Census that he is not a veteran.

On 3 August 1896 P.W. Evans married Dora Ann Swift in Butler Co., Kentucky.[6]

In 1900, Pleasant, age 22, and Dora, age 24 and born about May 1876, are living in Magisterial District 5, Butler, Kentucky, United States and farming. They have one child, Sidney H. Evans who is 1 year old, born about May 1899.[7]

In 1910 Pleasant and Dora continue to live in Magisterial District 5, Butler, Kentucky, United States. He now works as a blacksmith, and owns his own business. They now have 5 children. [8] Their children, all born in Butler, Kentucky, are:

  1. Sidney H. Evans, son, age 11
  2. Ora J. Evans, daughter, age 9
  3. Robert Lee Evans, age 7
  4. Lora D. Evans age 6
  5. Nora M. Evans age 4

In 1920, the Dr. Pleasant and Dora Evans family has moved to Oakridge, ED 44, Butler, Kentucky. Pleasant is now working as a veterinarian and puts a Doctor before his name. [9]Children present in the home at this time are:

  1. Sidney H. Evans age 20
  2. Robert L. Evansage 17
  3. Manie Evans age 13, daughter,(most likely, Nora Mayme)
  4. Goldia is age 9
  5. Cecil, age 6

Note: the last name of some of the children and of Dora is misspelled as Svano in the translation, the census document states Evans

In 1930, Dr. Pleasant Wade Evans and Dora Evans are living on Logan Street in their home which they own. Pleasant is working as a veterinarian for Butler County. [10] There are three young people in the household:

  1. Hobart age 30 (This may be Sidney H.)-works at odd jobs
  2. Golda age 18
  3. Cecil age 16

In 1940, Dr.P.W. Evans and Dora Evans are living in the same home, on Logan Street, in Morgantown, Kentucky. There are no children in the home. Pleasant is working as a Veterinarian in private practice. [11]

On 8 November 1946, Pleasant's first wife, Dora Evans, died of a coronary occlusion. She was buried in the Evans Cemetery on Nov. 10, 1946. Her mother was Emily Rose, her father was S. H. (or W.H.) Swift. [12]

In 1950, during the Census, Pleasant, age 72, is living on his own and working as a Veterinarian. At the same house number Mary Kuykendall , age 66, and her daughter, Mahalla J. Kuykendall, age 33, are present. Mahala is noted to be keeping house. [13]

Pleasant and Dora lost several children in infancy:

  1. Claudie May Evans 29 May 1908-19 July 1909[14]
  2. Erby Evans 1 Nov. 1911 to 1 Nov. 1911 [15]
  3. Emmett Evans 12 June 1916 to 12 June 1916 [16]

P.W. Evans, age 73, married Daisy Burden, age 57, on 26 October 1950. in Aberdeen, Butler, Kentucky. Her parents were Jim Burden and Arby Flener.[17]

Death and Burial

Pleasant passed away about 1961. He is buried in Isiah Evans Cemetery, Morgantown, Butler County, Kentucky, USA.[18]
