Matilda Fletcher Wiseman said the Sergeant Isham Felts of the Virginia Rifles in the RW was his ancestor or relative.[9]
The Ladd-Felts cemetery is on a farm (owned by John Casey in 1982) in Hamptonville. William and Susannah Felts, Amos and Nancy Ladd, and several infants as well as the slave George are buried there. A marker has been placed by Mrs. Clyde P. Trotter. [10]
The cemetery was once on a postal service route called Cycle, thus some pictures of the gravestones are labeled as such. It is now Hamptonville and the cemetery is on Terri Lane. William's stone was unreadable in 1997. The oval near the top of the stone is eroded and it is not known what symbol it may have contained. Bonnie Clayton doesn't know how many people are buried there, as the count can be overstated if footstones are counted, and it is not known if some are footstones or headstones. Perhaps there are 8-10 graves. Elijah Ladd has a real headstone. The graves are not in straight rows. [11]
To find cemetery: From Winston-Salem follow 421 toward North Wilkesboro. Approx 35-40 miles you will come to I-77. You will go under the highway staying on 421 and continue on approx 2 miles until a sign on left of road reading Union Baptist, turn left, and immediately back to right on Union Church road. Follow this road until you pass said church and continue on to the end of said road, which connects with Somers road. Turn left come over crest of hill, sign reading "Pardue Lane" turn left, go approx. 25 yards to where road forks, turn right and it is in first field near the woods on left side of road (Terri Lane). Bonnie Clayton lived the 1st house on the right IF turning left at the fork of the road.[12]
William and Susannah (Oliver) Felts are buried in Somers Township, Wilkes County, NC, on private property less than 5 miles from what was John Brown's land near the present corner of Windsor Road and Brown Road in North Buck Shoal Township, Yadkin County, NC. {CAS].
