John Matthew Fernance was born on 07 Jul 1870^[1] in MacDonald River, New South Wales, Australia as the third child of Charles Thomas and Jane Thompson. He had fourteen siblings, namely: Ann Elizabeth, Ephraim, Isaac, Joseph, Richard, Albert, Charles Thomas, Esther Jane Amos Earl, Archibald Wilfred, George Pearson, Harold Kershaw, Frederick William and Hazeltine. He died on 29 Aug 1966^[2] in Wyong, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 23, he married Susannah Frances Walters, daughter of Daniel James Walters and Susannah Frances Bailey, on 31 Mar 1894^[3] in St Albans, New South Wales, Australia.
