Elizabeth Ann Fifield was born about 1871 in Oxfordshire.
She was the fifth child of Jonas Fifield and Caroline Fifield née Steed. The family arrived in New Zealand aboard the Merope in 1875, settling in Geraldine.
In 1892 Elizabeth married Leonard Pierce, the youngest surviving son of John and Eliza Pierce, publicans and proprietors of hotels in Christchurch and Lyttelton. [1]
Elizabeth and Leonard settled in Orari and had twelve children: Arthur (1894); Ina (1895); Edward (1897); Doris (1899); Roland (1900); Leonard (1902); Eric (1903); Lucy (1905); Phyllis (1908); Henry (1910); Percy (1913); and John (1916). All of their children survived to adulthood, married, and had families of their own.
In 1912 the family moved to Geraldine.
Leonard passed away in 1922.
Elizabeth passed away in 1946, aged 75. [2] She is buried in Temuka cemetery. [3]
