Josiah was born in Ohio in 1838 [1] where the family lived until sometime before the 1860 Federal Census lists them in Kosciusko, Indiana. [2]Within a month of his father's death Josiah, then 23, married 15 year old Sarah Easter.[3]
Josiah mustered with Company A of the 74th Regiment, Indiana Infantry in July of 1862 .[4]and he died of typhoid fever in Chattanooga, Tennesee before his daughter's first birthday[5]
Josiah is buried in Nashville National Cemetary, Madison, Tennessee. [6]
