Mary Fisher was born in Scotland to Archibald Fisher and Isobel McDougal on January 18, 1758 and emigrated to Augusta, Virginia, in 1767. She married John Steele in Hawkins, Tennessee, on May 10, 1782. They had nine children:
1. Catherine Steele (February 14, 1784-November 11, 1869)
2. Elizabeth Steele (born 1785, death date unknown)
3. George Steele (March 19, 1786-February 25, 1851)
4. Archibald Steele (July 2, 1789-April 9, 1859)
5. James Steele (1792-September 3, 1863)
6. Mary Steele (August 20, 1792-November 10, 1853)
7. John Steele (February 11, 1795-October 22, 1872)
8. Thomas F. Steele (May 30, 1797-March 20, 1861)
9. Rebecca Steele (born 1801, death date unknown)
Mary Fisher Steele died on May 18, 1819 and was buried in the Steeleville Cemetery.
