Biography

George John Forbes, was styled Viscount Forbes and entered the army, was A.D.C to King George 111 from 1811-25, becoming finally, in 1825, a Major-General. He served as a Whig Member of the Irish Parliament for county Longford 1806 until his death. He was Lord Lieutenant of co.Longford 1831-36 and Secretary to the Order of St.Patrick 1828-36. He is said to have died of water on the brain, occasioned by an apoplectic stroke. He was returned to Ireland and buried in the old church of Clongish, near Castle Forbes. He married Frances Mary Territt, daughter of William Territt, on 4 October 1832. He died in his father's lifetime.^[1]
