Biography

J. Sherwood Forrester, (given a "decorative initial" in the place of the first name) was known as Jack throughout adulthood . The name Sherwood was his mother's maiden name. Obviously someone made the connection between Sherwood and Forrester from the Robin Hood myth and decided such naming would be novel. (oh, dear) [1]

Jack married Marion M. Hogan about 1939, with whom he fathered Craig Forrester. The 1940 Federal Census record show both Jack and Marion as married, though both were living with their respective parents at the time and were probably already separated. Jack later married Marie M. Zimmerman(n) with whom he had two sons, Darrell and Keith. There are no documents supporting either marriage, and since both were elopements, a question of formal or legal ceremony remains. He "married" a third time in the 1960s and joked years later with son Craig that it was not a real marriage - Jack had duped his present "wife" into believing a Bell-hop could perform the function for them in a hotel. Quite the kidder... [2]

Jack was in the U.S. Army during WWII, served in Oregon with rank of Corporal in 1943. Was injured in the US and never went overseas. [3][4]

Jack was a car salesman for most of his adult life. He was a regular smoker, drinker and party guy. He liked fishing and dabbled a little with painting in oils.

At the time of his death, Jack was a car salesman. He lived at 900 Rand Road, Arlington Heights, and was married to Louise Lyons Forrester. He was buried in Rosehill Cemetery on October 25, 1976. Drake and Sons, Inc. handled the funeral. [5]
