Samuel was born in 1917.^[1][2] Sam was the son of Daniel Oscar Friend and Clara Alminta Gallion.^[3][2]

In 1938, Sam married Geneva Crook.^[4][5][6] Sam and Geneva divorced in 1944.^[7]

Sam volunteered at the world headquarters of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society at Brooklyn, New York.^[8]

Sam died in 1993.^[2][9]
